Jessica THomas - Owner and Lead Instructor
Jessica Thomas is an AFAA certified personal trainer, ACE certified health coach, and holds a certification as a Crossfit Level 1 trainer. She has been actively training and guiding women on their fitness journies since 2012. She is highly experienced in women’s group fitness and personal training. Her passion is in perinatal fitness and is currently active in continuous education centered around women’s fitness, special populations and nutritional studies.
After moving to the Greenville area from Phoenix in July 2014, she realized there was a definite need for a safe, supportive and kid-friendly fitness outlet for women in the Upstate. An outlet that allows for women to stay active and make lasting relationships with others as well. Within 3 weeks of her move, she founded Strong Mamas and since then, she has impacted hundreds of women in the Upstate and has created partnerships with the City of Greenville Park and Recreation, Bon Secours Wellness Arena, and the Caine Halter YMCA in order to offer growth and awareness for her Strong Mamas classes.
In her spare time, she enjoys weight lifting, hiking, watching football, eating good food with good friends and exploring Greenville with her husband Scott and two sons, Ethan and Weston.
Carey Sousa - Group Instructor
Carey is extremely excited to be a part of the Strong Mamas team. She loves being part of a community that continually inspires not only herself but other women in the Upstate. Every class she teaches, she sees an abundant amount of encouragement and support from everyone. Seeing the progress and love from her fellow Strong Mamas is what our mission is all about. She loves being a part of something that is helping to make a difference in so many lives.
Carey is an ACE certified group fitness trainer and is recent transplant to the Greenville area. She also spends her time working for the March of Dimes and with her husband, Ryan, and two children, Savannah and Cooper.
Nicole Willaman - Group Instructor
Nicole is a certified ACE group fitness instructor and stay-at-home mom. She recently moved to Greenville from San Francisco, CA. Shortly after her move to Greenville, Nicole found Jessica and her wonderful community of Strong Mamas. This group inspired Nicole to take her love of fitness to the next level by becoming a certified instructor.
In her spare time Nicole loves to spend time with her husband, Joe and their one year old son, Paul. They enjoy being active, exploring Greenville, discovering new restaurants, and catching live music. Nicole is originally from Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University with a BA in Accounting. In the fall, you will find her dressed in scarlet and grey and cheering on her alma mater.
Nicole is excited to join the Strong Mamas team and is looking forward to helping this great circle of women with their fitness journey.
ANGELA COSTNER - GROUP INSTRUCTOR
Thanks to Angela’s parents, being active is a lifestyle for her. They encouraged her to play outside, took her hiking regularly and started her in sports at the age of 4. Angela knew she wanted to share her passion of physical activity so she obtained her BA in Kinesiology and MA in Physical Education Administration, became a certified yoga instructor and most recently became in ACE certified group fitness instructor. She has also coached high school soccer and lacrosse.
Coming from Los Angeles California, Angela is an excited newcomer to Greenville. During her free time she enjoys exercising, practicing yoga, gardening, and being in nature with her husband and little girl, Lily.

Jenean Poley - Group Instructor
I am an ACE certified group fitness instructor, Licensed Professional Counselor, wife, and mommy. I recently moved to Greenville from Chicago, IL. As a Professional Counselor I believe in and understand the importance of a healthy mind and body which is what inspired me to become a fitness instructor. I have a passion for helping people reach their goals and maintain their success. Exercising has always been an important part of my life and I am so excited to be a part of Strong Mamas. I am proud to be a part of a group that not only encourages a healthy lifestyle but also provides friendship and support.
In my spare time I love to be with my husband Erich and 2 daughters Brezlyn and Reese. We enjoy going out to eat, being active outdoors, traveling, and exploring downtown Greenville and the swamp rabbit trail.
Katie ratchford - group instructor
Katie is a recently certified ACE group fitness instructor who moved to Greenville and became a new mom in May 2016. Having always been passionate about fitness, she searched for a group that would allow her to be active with her son while also meeting other moms in the area. Strong Mamas was the PERFECT match! It did not take long after joining Strong Mamas to realize that she wanted to be a part of this group’s mission and encouraging women to reach their goals through an active lifestyle.
In addition, Katie holds a B.S.A in Food Science & Technology from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and worked in the food industry before becoming a stay-at-home mom. In addition to Strong Mamas, Katie enjoys ice cream, being in the mountains, snuggling with her dogs Buddy & Molly, and quality time with her husband Adam and son Nolan.
SANDRA MICHAUD - SOCIAL MEDIA administrator AND EVENT COORDINATOR
Being a French Canadian, Sandra moved to the United States with her husband JS in 2007, after graduating in Montreal, Quebec with a BA in French teaching and another BA with Majors in Journalism and Spanish. She worked in education for a couple of years in Tallahassee, Florida until starting a family.
An active mom of two (Frederick and Claudia), Sandra started attending the Strong Mamas classes soon after moving to Greenville from Rockford, Illinois at the beginning of 2015. She found the group through Meetup and felt it was the right fit for her: get a great workout, enjoy the outdoors and make new friends. Recently, Sandra become the Social Media and Event Coordinator of Strong Mamas. She is in charge of promoting the Strong Mamas classes and events on Facebook as well as organizing fun crafts and activities for the members each month. Besides exercising, Sandra enjoys traveling with her family, cooking and making crafts.
